Certification programmes and award schemes offer incentives to people to take action. BIGGA supports a number of initiatives, all of which in their own way help to spotlight high standards in environmental and sustainability performance. Each one helps to communicate, across the industry and externally to governments and the public, that golf course managers are responsible and professional and that golf can bring positive outcomes to people and to the planet.

Alongside highly credible international ecolabels, which recognise high standards and continual improvement, a number of environmental awards and certificates are also available to BIGGA members in the UK and Northern Ireland.

Golf Environment Awards

Golf is enjoyed by millions across the globe, and with almost 40,000 golf courses worldwide, the industry has an important part to play in protecting the environment.

Golf clubs are seeing tangible results from environmental projects. Many are achieving an increase in habitat varieties, improving playing experiences for golfers, and providing a positive contribution to wildlife and the communities in which their members live and work. 

With the ever-increasing spotlight on environmental matters, it is fundamentally important for golf courses worldwide to assess what they can do to achieve environmental sustainability while continuing to maximise the enjoyment of golf. 

Since 1995 the aim of the Golf Environment Awards is to recognise, reward and promote outstanding individuals and golf courses, no matter how big or small, for the time and effort they have put into protecting and preserving their unique surroundings.

GEO OnCourse ™ Programme and Certified™ Ecolabel

BIGGA endorses the GEO OnCourse™ programme for the way it makes sustainability easier to understand, plan and deliver in the workplace.
