Romford Golf Club is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Course Manager to lead the presentation, maintenance, and long-term development of our highly regarded James Braid designed course.

With a proud history dating back to 1894 and a vibrant membership, Romford is a friendly, member-focused club committed to continuous improvement. Over recent years we have invested heavily in the course including in a new irrigation system, greens rope drainage, a new fleet of John Deere mowers and we are in the early stages of a reservoir project for water sustainability.

We are now looking for a Course Manager who combines modern agronomic knowledge with strong leadership and a passion for delivering excellent playing conditions year-round.

 

Key Responsibilities

· Lead, motivate, and develop the greenkeeping team.

· Deliver high-quality playing surfaces across greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, and rough.

· Plan and implement annual and long-term maintenance programmes.

· Manage turf health, irrigation, drainage, and environmental practices.

· Oversee machinery maintenance, procurement, and safe operation.

· Prepare and manage the annual greens budget.

· Communicate proactively with club management, members and attend Greens Committee meetings.

· Support capital projects including drainage improvements and water-management initiatives.

· Ensure compliance with health, safety and environmental regulations.

 

About You

Essential

· Proven experience as Course Manager, Head Greenkeeper, or Deputy.

· Strong leadership and communication skills.

· Excellent knowledge of modern greenkeeping practices and machinery.

· Experience managing budgets and planning maintenance programmes.

· Membership of BIGGA with a commitment to CPD.

· NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in Sportsturf Management.

· PA1, PA2, PA6 spraying certifications.

Desirable

· Chainsaw certification.

· Experience with clay-based parkland courses.

· Knowledge of sustainability practices.

· Experience delivering drainage or irrigation projects.
