The BIGGA Kickstart Programme: opening the door to greenkeeping
The BIGGA Kickstart Programme provides a clear, accessible starting point for anyone looking to understand greenkeeping and take their first step into the profession.
Designed as an entry-level course and supported by BIGGA’s status as a Lantra-approved training provider, Kickstart sits at the very beginning of our formal education pathway and acts as a feeder into the Level 2 Greenkeeping Apprenticeship. It is aimed at new entrants, career changers and anyone with little or no prior experience, offering a structured introduction to the core principles that underpin the role. For clubs, it offers a practical tool that can be used as part of an induction process, helping new staff or volunteers quickly build knowledge.
“Kickstart is about opening the door to our profession and making that first step as clear as possible,” said Education Director Rob Phillips. “We recognise that starting out in greenkeeping can feel daunting, so this programme has been designed to break down barriers and provide a genuine introduction to the industry.”
Delivered fully online, Kickstart has been designed with flexibility and accessibility in mind. Learners access the course through an e-portfolio, allowing them to progress at their own pace. A range of resources support different learning needs, including written materials, video content and audio options.
Applications for the programme will open in June, with a waiting list in place for those interested in enrolling.
