BIGGA Awards refreshed for 2027

The BIGGA Celebration, sponsored by The R&A, will return with a refreshed format for 2027 as two new categories are added to The BIGGA Awards.

Greenkeeping Team of the Year and Volunteer of the Year will headline the revised line-up, while the Lifetime Achievement Award will continue our longstanding recognition of an exceptional career and contribution to the profession. The new categories are designed to capture the breadth of achievement across greenkeeping, encompassing the collective effort behind outstanding golf courses and the voluntary contributions that strengthen our community.

Applications for the Greenkeeping Team of the Year Award can be submitted from Monday 14 September until Friday 16 October.

The Volunteer of the Year Award will follow a separate nomination process, with candidates put forward through our regional teams.

Chief Executive Jim Croxton said: “The BIGGA Celebration gives us an opportunity each year to shine a light on the outstanding work being done by our members and the broader industry. The revised format allows us to recognise a broader range of achievement, encompassing the collective efforts of greenkeeping teams and the members who give their time and expertise to support our association.”

The refreshed programme will run alongside the Golf Environment Awards, supported by BIGGA and STRI, which also return in 2027. Together, they will help us celebrate more of the expertise and commitment found throughout greenkeeping, giving the people and teams behind exceptional work a wider platform and raising awareness of their essential contribution to golf.

The BIGGA Awards will be presented during the BIGGA Celebration at BTME 2027 in Harrogate next January. 

New awards for 2027

The Greenkeeping Team of the Year Award recognises outstanding greenkeeping teams at any golf facility that have demonstrated excellence in course management and presentation; delivered significant achievements or overcome challenges; embraced innovation and continuous improvement; fostered strong teamwork and leadership; and made a positive contribution to staff development and the wider golf community.

The Volunteer of the Year Award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding voluntary contribution to BIGGA and its members through their commitment, dedication and support. The award celebrates volunteers who have made a meaningful impact on the association; strengthened member engagement; and inspired others through their leadership, encouragement and willingness to give their time and expertise.
