300 Miles for Hope – the road to BTME ‘26
A greenkeeper who walked 450 miles from Epsom to Glasgow is lacing up his running shoes for another epic feat of endurance to raise awareness around mental health.
In January, Jack Percival, senior greenkeeper at Royal Automobile Club, will run 300 miles - seven days of consecutive ultramarathons - from the Surrey venue to Harrogate Convention Centre in time for BTME.
And he is doing it all to promote and raise funds for two causes close to his heart: Percy’s Homeless Hub and the Greenkeepers Benevolent Fund.
Jack founded Percy’s Homeless Hub to support vulnerable people in his community with food, shelter and rehabilitation opportunities, and he has been a long-time advocate for opening up conversations around suicide and mental health within the turfcare industry.
His efforts have previously been recognised with BIGGA’s Outstanding Contribution Award.
“This run is about reminding people that no matter how dark things feel, there is always a way forward, and you are never truly alone,” he said.
“If you can, please follow the journey, share the message or donate to help me make a difference one mile, one story, one life at a time.”
This latest test follows his 2024 journey on foot from Epsom to Ibrox Stadium – a 450-mile trek that raised more than £11,000 for his charity and changed his perspective on life.
That walk came a year after Jack’s own mental health crisis, when he was admitted to hospital following a suicide attempt.
He has since dedicated himself to using his story to inspire hope in others.
As he runs north towards Harrogate, Jack plans to stop at golf clubs along the route to meet fellow greenkeepers and supporters, sharing experiences and promoting the message that nobody has to face their struggles alone.
Through his incredible fundraising efforts, Jack continues to show that the darkest moments can be transformed into powerful opportunities to help others.
