Formby Ladies Golf Club, proudly situated within a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on England’s Golf Coast, is seeking a dedicated Mechanic/Greenkeeper to join our progressive and supportive greens team. This is a rare opportunity to work at one of England’s Top 100 courses, using modern machinery and contributing directly to the ongoing development of our course, facilities, and infrastructure.

The Role
 
We are looking for a motivated individual with strong mechanical skills and a passion for producing high quality playing surfaces. You will manage machinery maintenance while assisting the greens team on golf course operations. This full time position is based on 39 hours per week, including 1 weekend in 5 on a rota system, and offers excellent opportunities for development and progression.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Machinery Maintenance & Workshop Duties
  • Carry out routine servicing, maintenance, and repairs on the club’s machinery fleet (including electric and autonomous units)
  • Comply with all relevant health & safety legislation
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults
  • Maintain accurate servicing records and assist with machinery lifecycle planning
  • Ensure workshop areas are kept safe, organised and tidy
  • Research, order and manage stocks of parts, consumables, and workshop materials, working to an approved budget
  • The ability to prioritise work in conjunction with golf course maintenance needs
  • Fabricate miscellaneous items to help improve the efficiency of the golf course maintenance operation
  • Perform diagnostics, repairs and servicing of equipment both in the workshop and in the field when required
  • Carry out inspection checks on new and used machines
Greenkeeping Duties:
  • Complete a wide range of greenkeeping duties as required, (training will be given)
  • Operate a range of modern turf equipment safely and efficiently
  • Support seasonal and project work on the golf course, including renovations, drainage, and construction tasks

Person Specification:
 
 
Essential
  • A good attitude and work ethic towards teamwork, independent working and communication
  • Reliable, motivated, and committed to high standards
  • A strong mechanical aptitude with experience in servicing and maintaining machinery
  • A comprehensive understanding of, and commitment to, health & safety and related procedures
  • The ability to work early mornings and weekends on a rota basis, and in varying weather conditions
  • Driving license
Desirable
  • Relevant machinery/mechanical qualifications
  • Greenkeeping qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3) or willingness to undertake training
  • Experience working in a greenkeeping, grounds, or related environment
  • Be familiar with a wide range of golf course equipment
  • Knowledge and experience of operating cylinder grinding machines
  • Experience of operating welding equipment
