Lead Greenkeeper
Skibbereen and West Carbery Golf Club are seeking a dedicated Lead Greenkeeper to maintain and care for our golf course.
The role involves a variety of tasks related to grass, plant, and turf management, ensuring the golf course is kept at the highest possible standard.
Ideal candidates should possess a keen eye for detail, experience in greenkeeping or landscaping, and a genuine passion for outdoor work.
Job Purpose
The Lead Greenkeeper is responsible for the maintenance, presentation, development and continuous improvement of the golf course and associated landscaped areas. Working under the direction of the Course Liasion Officer (part of the Management Committee), the Lead Greenkeeper will lead and supervise the greenkeeping team and ensure the course is maintained to the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers and landscaped areas
- Prepare the golf course for daily play, competitions and events
- Identify and manage irrigation, drainage, weeds, pests and turf diseases
- Operate and maintain golf course machinery safely
- Maintaining appropriate levels of supplies and ensuring safe and effective control of all stored materials and ground maintenance products
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other chemicals responsibly and in accordance with safety procedures
- Allocating work rotas and supervising greenkeeping staff
- Complying with company policies, rules, and procedures at all times
- Maintain compliance with health, safety and environmental standards
- Managing refuse in accordance with waste regulations
- Liaise with contractors, suppliers and Course Consultant
- Follow and implement course consultants bi annual plan for maintaining and improving the golf course - including mowing, aeration, top dressing and overseeding
- Lead and supervise the greenkeeping team and allocate daily work schedules
- Communicating information to staff, management, and golfers, including daily course updates (when required)
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualification in Greenkeeping, Sports Turf Management, Horticulture or related discipline
- Minimum five years greenkeeping experience
- Supervisory or team leadership experience
- Knowledge of use of pesticides (further training will be provided)
- Full driving licence
