Whalebone Golf Club in Romford, Essex comprises an 18 hole golf course, 25 bay Toptracer driving range, 18 hole Adventure Golf facility, 18 hole Footgolf course, American Golf retail store and golf simulator room.

We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and dedicated full time Head Greenkeeper to lead the team in the maintenance and development of our 18 hole course and surrounding grounds / golf facilities.This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to take ownership of Essex’s most comprehensive golfing destination, ensuring the highest standards of course presentation and playability are consistently achieved.

The successful candidate will oversee the day-to-day management of the course and greenkeeping team, ensuring exceptional standards of turf care, horticulture, landscape aesthetics, and health and safety are maintained throughout the year.

Working closely with the club management team, the Head Greenkeeper will be responsible for planning, organising, and supervising all course-related activities, delivering outstanding playing conditions on the course and consistent presentation of the driving range, Adventure Golf and Footgolf facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, motivate, and manage the greenkeeping team to deliver consistently high standards
  • Plan and oversee all aspects of course maintenance and presentation
  • Manage turf care programmes, irrigation (Rainbird IC system), drainage, and machinery schedules
  • Monitor and maintain course health, aesthetics, and playability throughout the seasons
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively
  • Identify and implement course improvement projects
  • Excellent communication with club management, members, and external contractors
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Proven experience in a Head Greenkeeper or Deputy-Head greenkeeping role
  • Strong technical knowledge of turf management, horticulture, and course maintenance practices
  • Relevant industry qualifications (NVQ level 3) -PA1, PA2, and PA6 spraying certificates
  • Experience managing and developing a team
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • A proactive and hands-on approach
  • A passion for delivering outstanding course conditions and continuous improvement
Licence/Certification:
 
PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates (required) NVQ Level 3 (required)
