Greenkeeper

Cleeve Hill Golf Club - South West & Wales
Greenkeeper 20 November 2026

Become a keeper of the Hill - where the land came first.

Golf has been played on Cleeve Hill since 1891, high on Cleeve Common: Gloucestershire’s largest common and a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its rare limestone grassland. Sheep graze the fairways, walkers cross on the Cotswold Way, and the views stretch across the Severn Vale. This isn’t a manicured parkland course. It’s natural, open, upland golf - and we’re looking for a Greenkeeper who wants to work with it.

Role - Greenkeeper (full time)

Hours - 40 per week, incl. weekends

Salary - Dependent on experience

Reports to - Head Greenkeeper

Location - Cleeve Hill, Cheltenham, GL52 3PW

The role:

  • Lead daily course preparation: greens, tees, bunkers, markings and set-up
  • Work within SSSI rules alongside Cleeve Common Trust and the graziers
  • Keep fertiliser, chemical and water use to a minimum
  • Operate and maintain machinery safely and support renovation projects
  • Be a courteous face of the Club to Members, visitors and the public

You’ll bring:

  • A real interest in ecology, conservation and environmentalsustainability
  • Strong practical skills and a positive, ‘can do’ attitude
  • Confidence talking with Members, the public and partners alike
  • Flexibility for early starts, weekends and changeable weather
  • Pride in looking after somewhere genuinely special

What makes Cleeve different:

Nature first - Fine, firm, fescue-led turf on thin limestone soils, kept with a light touch.

Shared ground - Sheep, cattle, walkers and riders are part of every day on the Common.

Big weather - At over 300 metres, wind, fog and frost arrive fast.

Plans adapt - Real heritage Over 130 years of golf on a hill with three Scheduled Monuments
