Join the BIGGA team as Education Technical Lead

BIGGA is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic education professional to join our growing Education team as our new Education Technical Lead.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in the next phase of BIGGA’s education and professional development strategy, helping to shape, develop and deliver education for greenkeepers throughout their careers.

Reporting to the Education Director, the Education Technical Lead will provide specialist technical education expertise across BIGGA and Greenkeepers Training Committee (GTC) activity. The role will combine programme and curriculum development, tutoring and assessment, quality assurance, accreditation and workforce development.

The role is hybrid, with flexibility to work from home alongside regular attendance at BIGGA’s headquarters in Easingwold, York, and attendance at meetings, education delivery and industry events as required.

Purpose of the role:

BIGGA represents golf greenkeepers and supports the development of the profession through education, career development, networking, member support and professional recognition.

Our Education Department is entering an important period of growth. BIGGA’s education pathway now extends from attracting people into the profession and entry-level learning through technical qualifications and continuing professional development to leadership education and Master Greenkeeper – the highest level of professional recognition within BIGGA’s education pathway.

The Education Technical Lead will help us develop and deliver the next stage of that journey.

Working closely with the Education Director and wider Education team, you will lead on key areas of technical education, programme development, assessment and quality assurance. You will also lead the Education Department’s contribution to workforce and careers activity, helping BIGGA attract people into greenkeeping and support their development and progression throughout their careers.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop, maintain and support the delivery of BIGGA-owned and BIGGA-accredited education programmes.
• Coordinate the technical elements of greenkeeping Standards, curricula, learning materials and qualification handbooks.
• Develop and implement assessment strategies for BIGGA programmes, courses and initiatives.
• Provide technical tutoring, learner support, assessment, marking and developmental feedback.
• Support internal quality assurance, assessment standardisation and consistent educational standards.
• Lead the technical development and implementation of BIGGA’s Accreditation and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) framework.
• Work with the Education Director and Education Coordinator to support BIGGA’s service level agreement with the GTC.
• Build strong relationships with training providers, employers and education partners.
• Support the development and adaptation of education programmes and resources for UK and international delivery.
• Lead and coordinate the Education Department’s contribution to workforce and careers activity, working with colleagues to support attraction, recruitment, career progression and retention within greenkeeping.
• Contribute to industry events, education delivery and other BIGGA initiatives as required.

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of greenkeeping education who can combine technical knowledge with education and assessment expertise.

You’ll be comfortable working with learners, training providers and industry colleagues, but equally capable of taking ownership of projects and turning ideas into high-quality education programmes and resources.

You should have:

• A detailed understanding of the formal greenkeeper education structure and national education frameworks.
• Strong technical knowledge and understanding of greenkeeping and sports turf management.
• Experience of education, training, tutoring, coaching or mentoring.
• Experience of formal or informal assessment and providing developmental feedback.
• Experience of developing curricula, learning resources or qualification materials.
• An understanding of quality assurance and assessment standardisation.
• Strong organisational and project-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• The ability to build effective relationships with learners, members, colleagues, training providers and industry partners.
• Good IT and digital skills.
• The ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a wider team.

Desirable:

Experience or qualifications in teaching, training, assessment or Internal Quality Assurance (IQA) would be advantageous, as would experience of apprenticeship or Further Education delivery, curriculum development, RPL/accreditation, digital learning or workforce and careers activity.

The role:

• Salary: Competitive, dependent upon qualifications and experience
• Hours: Full time (part-time / flexible working considered for the right candidate)
• Location: Hybrid – home working combined with regular attendance at BIGGA headquarters in Easingwold, York, and travel as required
• Reports to: Education Director
