Portsmouth Golf Course is one of Hampshire's busiest golf venues with an 18-hole course boasting fantastic views over The Solent. We also have a clubhouse which is home to our Bar & Restaurant area. Portsmouth Golf Course is part of Lex Leisure who operate 6 Golf Clubs within the UK.
We have an excellent opportunity for a Deputy Head Greenkeeper to join our team. The role would suit someone with established greenkeeping experience who is looking to join a forward thinking, supportive team. You will contribute towards the management of the golf course and have aligned responsibilities.
Duties:

Deputising for the Head Greenkeeper in their absence

Preparation and maintenance of our 18-hole course, practice areas and general amenity areas

Assisting with leading and motivating a team with clarity and consistency
-
Support in coordinating the maintenance of machinery/equipment/irrigation and service contracts

Joint planning and decision-making on daily operations and long term strategy
-
Delivering high-quality playing surfaces across all areas
-
Assisting with managing the machine/equipment/buggy fleet to ensure all equipment is correctly maintained and serviced

Hands-on involvement in mowing, spraying, irrigation and renovation works

Coordinating machinery care and safe systems of work
-
Help train, develop and motivate staff to continuously develop their technical skills

Health and Safety management

Some weekend cover on a rota basis
The Person
You’ll be someone who:

Has an interest in golf and a good understanding of the needs and wants of the golf consumer
Preferred qualifications:
-
NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Sports Turf Maintenance

Chemical Spraying qualifications are preferred
-
Chainsaw qualifications preferred but not essential
-
Knowledge of the use and maintenance of modern greenkeeping machinery
-
Knowledge of automated irrigation systems
-
Knowledge of all health and safety legislation relating to greenkeeping equipment and also chemical and waste handling
