Deputy Head Greenkeeper

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Deputy Head Greenkeeper to join the team at The Isle of Purbeck Golf Club, ahead of hosting Southwest Week this June.

Working closely with the Head Greenkeeper, the successful candidate will play a key role in the day-to-day maintenance of the golf course.  Responsibilities will include helping to enhance all playing surfaces, supporting ongoing course improvements and contributing to the delivery of the club’s long-term vision as set out in the master plan.

This position would suit an experienced Greenkeeper looking to take the next step in their career, or a newly qualified individual seeking their first senior role within the course management.

Founded in 1892, the Isle of Purbeck is a unique 27-hole Heathland/Links course set within a stunning nature reserve and is a designated site of Special Scientific Interest.  In recent years the owners have made a significant investment to the course, with a clear commitment from ownership to an ambitious 10-year development plan.

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Assist the Head Greenkeeper in planning and supervision of all daily course maintenance ensuring high standards are met.
  • Lead the team in the absence of the Head Greenkeeper.
  • Assist with staff training and development.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, COSHH and risk assessments.
  • Help enhance the golfers’ experience by promoting environmental sustainability on the golf course and surrounding areas.

Candidates must possess:

  • Strong knowledge of turf management, agronomy and modern greenkeeping techniques.
  • Proven leadership with strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Understanding of machinery maintenance and irrigation systems.
  • Be enthusiastic, motivated and enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Innovative ideas with the desire to continue to learn and improve, whilst passing on your knowledge and experience to others.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ 3 or equivalent, or NVQ 2 with 5 years’ experience
  • PA1,2,6 spraying certification
  • Chainsaw CS201, 202 and 203 - Desirable
  • Construction experience - Desirable

Salary:

  • Dependent on knowledge and experience, based on a 40-hour week.
  • 1 in 3 weekends paid as overtime.
