We have a great opportunity for an experienced and qualified greenkeeping professional to join our team as Deputy Course Manager.
You’ll work closely with our Course Manager with responsibility for on-course leadership on a daily basis and leading the team in his absence.
Chesterfield Golf Club’s Harry Colt designed course is one of the region’s finest and is regularly host to prestigious events such as the Midland County Championships and England Schools Finals.
We are working alongside our appointed golf course architect Jonathan Gaunt and the R&A to deliver ambitious and exciting changes through our course development plan over the next three years and the successful applicant will have a key role to play in delivering this.
The Individual:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, maintenance and development of all grass areas, bunkers, greens and tees, and adhering to all relevant health and safety guidelines. You will need to be a team player, able to work under pressure and have strong leadership and communication skills.
Main Responsibilities:

To assist with the smooth and efficient running of the greenkeeping operation

To maintain the golf course and grounds to the highest of standards all year round specifically taking into consideration times of year, extremes of weather, growth patterns, disease risks, weed control and presentation standards

To prepare the course for play, undertake maintenance and project/redevelopment works

To supervise team members to ensure allocated tasks are carried out, that required procedures are being followed and provide guidance, motivation and support

To assist with the provision of continuous training for staff
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required:
The successful applicant will report directly to the Course Manager and will have the following qualifications and attributes:

Minimum of NVQ level 2/3 in sports turf management (or equivalent)

PA1, PA2 and PA6 spraying certificates (desirable)

He/she should have at least 5 years’ experience in the industry

Good understanding of health and safety

The ability to lead and motivate others
-
A keen eye for detail
-
He/she must have the confidence to lead from the front, setting a good example and having a very strong work ethic

Flexible, organised and hands on approach

Be able to detail and instruct work programmes to the team
-
Chainsaw licence CS30 CS31 (desirable)

Driving licence
This is a physically demanding role which requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and includes weekend rotas.

Salary: £34,627 to £37,161
NOTE: On-site accommodation for the successful candidate and their family may be available if desired.
