Renowned for its unique inland links character, the course has hosted many of the game's most prestigious championships, including the Ryder Cup, Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, The Amateur Championship and numerous national championships.
 
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious, highly motivated and driven individual to join our team as Deputy Course Manager.
 
Working closely alongside the Course Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in the leadership, management and continued development of one of the country's most respected championship venues. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for a talented greenkeeper seeking to further their career within a progressive club committed to excellence in golf course presentation, sustainable management and continuous improvement.
 
The Role
 
The Deputy Course Manager will support the Course Manager in the strategic and day-to-day management of the golf course, ensuring the delivery of championship standards throughout the year. The successful candidate will be actively involved in leading and motivating the greenkeeping team, managing resources efficiently, overseeing course development projects, preparing for championship events and contributing to the long-term vision for the golf course. This role requires a hands-on leader who can combine excellent practical greenkeeping skills with strong organisational, communication and people-management abilities.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the planning, organisation and delivery of all golf course maintenance operations to championship standards
  • Lead, motivate and manage the greenkeeping team, ensuring the highest levels of performance and professionalism
  • Support the preparation of the course for national and international championship events
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of course development and improvement projects
  • Support the management and operation of the irrigation system to maximise playing quality and resource efficiency
  • Contribute to machinery replacement planning and the management of the club's equipment inventory
  • Support recruitment, staff training, development and performance management
  • Maintain accurate records relating to course maintenance operations, chemical applications, budgets and equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety policies, risk assessments, COSHH regulations and statutory requirements
  • Work closely with the Course Manager & agronomic consultants to support the continued evolution of the golf course

Essential Requirements
  • Level 3 qualification in Sports Turf Management or equivalent
  • PA1, PA2 and PA6 certificates
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Proven experience within a high-quality golf course environment
  • Experience supervising and developing staff
  • Sound understanding of modern turfgrass management practices
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
  • Level 4 or higher Sports Turf qualification
  • Experience preparing courses for championship golf
  • Irrigation management experience
  • Chainsaw certification
  • First Aid qualification
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 dependent on experience
