Job Title: Assistant Greenkeeper
 
Reports To: Deputy Head Greenkeeper / Head Greenkeeper
 
Department: Greenkeeping/Course Maintenance
 
Location: Private Members Golf Club
 
Hours: Full-time, including early mornings and weekends (1 in 3)
 
Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience
 
 
Purpose of the Role
 
To support the daily maintenance and presentation of a chalk downland golf course to the highest standards expected by the membership. Working as part of the greenkeeping team under the direction of the Deputy Head Greenkeeper, the Assistant Greenkeeper will carry out a range of practical maintenance tasks to ensure excellent playing conditions are delivered consistently throughout the season. The course features creeping bent grass greens, and the successful candidate will contribute to the specialist care these surfaces demand.
 
 

Key Responsibilities:

•  Mowing, aerating, topdressing, verticutting, and overseeding greens, tees, fairways, approaches, and semi-rough areas to agreed schedules and standards

•  Assisting with the specialist maintenance of creeping bent grass greens, including monitoring growth patterns, disease pressure, and surface performance

•  Inspecting turf health and playing conditions daily, reporting concerns to the Deputy Head Greenkeeper promptly

•  Assisting with the application and maintenance of irrigation systems, including hand watering as required to manage the unique drainage characteristics of chalk downland soils

•  Raking and maintaining bunkers to a consistent standard, including edging, sand replenishment, and drainage checks

•  Repairing divots, pitch marks, and maintaining tee furniture, ball washers, and on-course signage

•  Applying fertilisers, fungicides, herbicides, and other plant protection products safely and in accordance with current legislation

•  Operating and maintaining a range of grounds maintenance machinery and equipment safely and efficiently

•  Trimming, strimming, and maintaining trees, hedgerows, and planted areas as directed

•  Communicating effectively with the Golf Course Manager and senior staff regarding course needs and conditions

•  Ensuring the course is presented to an exceptional standard for members and guests at all times

•  Undertaking any other reasonable grounds and maintenance duties as directed by the Head Greenkeeper or Deputy
