Talking Shop: The Architects Perspective
Today we bring together a panel of four experienced golf course architects and members of the EIGCA, who will be discussing the effects of the Covid-19 crisis on their part of the industry, for current and planned projects and future work. They will also discuss opportunities post Covid-19 to focus on golf course presentation, redefining golfers expectations and how golf courses may adapt post-lockdown.

Tim Lobb
Tim Lobb graduated with a B.Sc in Horticulture in Australia in 1994 and proceeded to gain valuable experience employed with an Australian based design practice, working on golf resort development projects in Australia and Asia.
From 1998 to 2004 he was employed with European Golf Design. Throughout the 6 years with them he was responsible for all facets of golf course design and implementation and was lead designer for the following projects: O`Meara Course, In Association with Mark O`Meara (Carton House GC, Ireland), Pasha Course (Antalya GC, Turkey) & Vanajan Linna Golf & Country Club (Finland) and the remodelling of the following courses; Santo Da Serra GC (Portugal), Marriott Forest of Arden (UK) & Marriott Goodwood Park
For the next 12 years Tim was a principal and managing director of Thomson Perrett & Lobb, TPL, completing projects in many countries of the world, including Egypt, Nigeria, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, as well as the UK.
When the Chairman of TPL, the five times Open champion Peter Thompson, retired in 2016 aged 87, Tim launched his own design firm, called LOBB + PARTNERS.
Tim is an avid proponent for professionalism and integrity, creativity, innovation and imagination in design and ensuring that construction is done correctly the first time.

Paul Kimber
Paul Kimber is a Golf Course Architect who has helped create many of the best courses built in the UK in the last 10 years. His philosophies are based on the Architects from the 'Golden Age' of Golf Course Architecture.
Based in Scotland he specialises in Links and Heathland Courses but also has a few parkland layouts in his portfolio. He consults with over 30 leading UK venues and his client list includes the R&A and St Andrews Links Trust.

James Edwards
James Edwards BA. Arch., EIGCA, is an Architectural graduate, former professional golfer and Director at EDI-Golf Ltd, Golf Course Architects. Over the past decade, EDI has focused on delivering dynamic golf solutions of all shapes and sizes to some of the leading Clubs, golfers and Institutions in the UK and Europe.
James fundamentally believes that a successful renovation project involves the entire project team from start to finish including building the product together. Due to James’s extensive experience and knowledge of academy and professional golf, EDI have established a reputation as the leading firm for practice facility design worldwide.

Gareth Williams
Gareth Williams. With a background in Landscape Architecture, Gareth contributes both technical and design expertise at Faldo Design. Managing the design process, he is involved in conceptual and detailed course design and masterplanning for the firm's active projects, as well as for tender and competition bids.
Born out of a passion for the natural landscape, sustainability in golf course development strongly influences Gareth's design work, as does his interest in strategic, efficient and contemporary design. Reflecting the changing golf market, he is a strong advocate for developing alternative forms of the game - including shorter facilities and formats that make it more accessible.
His experience includes project and design work in Europe, the Americas & Asia, including at Elea Estate in Cyprus, Laguna Lang Co in Vietnam, Lough Erne in Northern Ireland, and for the German 2022 Ryder Cup Bid Course redesign.
