Job Title:   Head Greenkeeper/Course Manager

Role Purpose
 
As the Head Greenkeeper your main responsibility is to ensure the maintenance and upkeep of Halifax Bradley Hall Golf Club to a very high standard through strong turf and course management programmes, effective leadership and management of the greenkeeping team and maintenance and upkeep of machinery, ensuring that the course is in optimal condition for play.
 
 

Key Responsibilities:

Course Maintenance:
  • Responsible for managing a team of professional groundskeepers and coordinating all aspects of course maintenance such as mowing, watering, fertilizing, and pest control
  • Ensure that fairways, greens, bunkers, and rough are well-maintained and meet the highest standards
  • Ensure trees and vegetation are monitored and maintained in accordance with the course design
  • Ensure the health and safety on the course
  • Set up the course for daily play including marking hazards, ground under repair, penalty areas, setting of tee markers, locating pin etc for regular club play and for competitions
  • In considering appropriate control measures for play, you will be responsive to climate changes, protecting the course and ensuring the health and safety of players
  • Effectively communicate information on course conditions on a daily basis
  • Operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials to achieve and maintain the desired standards on the golf course
Course Development:
  • Support the Club Management in proactively identifying and developing any plans for future development of the Golf Course and associated areas, prioritising those essential for health and safety and course improvement
  • Oversee projects identified for implementation, ensuring they are, where possible, delivered on time, within budget and to the appropriate standard, including complying with all relevant health and safety requirements
Equipment and Inventory Management:
  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of golf course equipment, such as mowers, irrigation systems, and vehicles
  • Manage and be responsible for inventory of necessary supplies, such as fertilizers, chemicals, and tools, ensuring adequate supplies are available to maintain the course throughout the year
Budgeting and Planning:
  • Work closely with the club management to develop and manage the annual budget for the golf course. This includes forecasting expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and planning for future projects or upgrades
  • Assist in the preparation of periodic budgetary reports including preparing annual operational budgets
Staff Management and Training:
  • Lead, manage and supervise a team of groundskeepers, co-ordinating, organising and controlling all works on the Golf Course on a daily basis.  This will include, but not limited to daily staffing tasks, use of and ordering of appropriate machinery and materials
  • Provide guidance, mentoring, training, and performance evaluations, fostering a positive work environment and encourage professional development among the team
  • Identify training and development needs and ensuring they are met
  • Support the recruitment and selection of Greenkeepers and grounds staff
  • Support, manage and develope apprentice greenkeepers as necessary, and liaising with the training provider
Health and Safety:
  • Comply with all health and safety legislation and any site safety rules imposed by management
  • Manage and take accountability for ensuring all Health & Safety Risk Assessments, COSHH, safe systems of work and operating procedures are up to date and are regularly reviewed
  • Ensure that all members of the course management team who are operating and maintaining machinery, tools and equipment do so following all safe systems of work and associated procedures, including dangers posed when maintaining the course during play, manual handling and handling hazardous substances
  • Ensure all appropriate Personal Protective Equipment is worn by staff and is well maintained
  • Manage and liaise with contractors ensuring their competence to carry out work on the course and ensuring they have all relevant information to undertake their work safely
Communication and Collaboration:
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with golf course management, golf professionals, and other relevant personnel to ensure that the course meets the expectations of the club members and guests
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as clubhouse and event management, to deliver successful operations
  • Understand the needs of our diverse customer base and provide an exceptional level of customer service at all times to each of our customers whether internal or external by being welcoming, approachable, responsive and considerate
  • Be an active member of the Golf Course Management Team, attending meetings, providing reports and contributing as necessary
