About Rotherham Golf Club
Rotherham Golf Club is rich in history and some wonderful folklore. For centuries its grounds at Thrybergh Park was home to some of the county’s most noble families.
The golf club was formed in 1903 and few clubs in the UK can claim such a glorious location and magnificent building for a clubhouse.
Originally a nine-hole course laid out by Sandy Herd, in 1906 it was increased to 18 holes and was subsequently modified by the renowned Scottish golf club architect, James Braid. Today we are proud to have an exceptionally well laid-out design, where golf is played over gently-rolling parkland of great beauty.
While the course has played host to some top professionals and aspiring amateurs it provides a fair and enjoyable test to golfers of all abilities. At 6,378 yards off the white tees it is not particularly long, though with a par of 70, narrow fairways and small but testing greens, it is certainly no push-over. We are proud to be the 2025 South Yorkshire Golf Club of the Year, as well as being the reigning England Club Champions and SUGC Division 1 Champions.
We’ve been hard at work enhancing the course through significant investment to elevate the playing experience. Spearheaded by architect Jonathan Gaunt, our latest endeavour includes refurbishing existing bunkers and strategically placing new ones, as well as creating fresh run-off areas. The bunkering features state-of-the-art rubber crumb bunker liner technology, all filled with China Clay sand, renowned for its moisture retention properties and distinctive grey, mottled appearance. The final phase was completed in March 2025, with all holes showcasing the pinnacle of modern golf course design.
The successful candidate will be key to the future development of the course, including a number of exciting projects currently in the planning stage.
