Hesketh Golf Club require a Deputy Links Manager to support our Links Manager in leading our Greenkeeping team in providing a first class golf course to its members and visitors.

Hesketh Golf Club is a highly regarded Championship course in Southport on England’s Golf Coast. The club has a proud history of hosting county, regional and international events, most recently, Regional Qualifying for The Open and The English Under 18’s Championship. The club is set to host Regional Qualifying once again in 2026 for The Open at Royal Birkdale.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role within our dedicated team who are responsible for the maintenance and development of our championship links course. 

Candidates should be self-motivated, enthusiastic and possess excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their exceptional understanding of greenkeeping practices and have an ongoing eye for detail and improvements. An excellent overall understanding of Health and Safety protocols in the workplace is required as operating safely is a requirement for our team to work effectively.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Links Manager, Hesketh Golf Club is seeking a forward-thinking and progressive Deputy Links Manager to support the Links Manager in leading the greenkeeping team and oversee all aspects of course presentation, preparation, playability and development.

The Deputy Links Manager plays a fundamental role in the golf course management structure and in maintaining the high standards expected of a Regional Qualifying venue and one situated proudly on England’s Golf Coast. The club is a regular host to county, England Golf and R&A events.

The incoming Deputy Links Manager will take a strategic role in course development, transformation and long-term maintenance planning. This includes assisting with managing the fleet of equipment, planning and delivering ongoing and future projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Assist in leading and developing our team of greenkeepers and artisans, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
  • Maintenance Planning: Create and deliver effective course maintenance and preparation schedules in conjunction with the Links Manager and our Executive Links Committee.
  • Machinery management: Operate and maintain machinery to the highest safety and performance standards.
  • Course Development: Collaborate with the Links Manager and Executive Links Committee on long-term improvement plans.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all health, safety, and environmental regulations are met within the greenkeeping department and golf course.
  • Course Monitoring: Adapt maintenance to weather, seasons, and play demands.
  • Staff Mentoring: Support and upskill team members through structured development plans.
  • Communication: Maintain clear, professional communication with management, staff, and the membership.
  • Liaise: Meet regularly with other Departments to ensure the course is prepared accurately alongside a busy and competitive club diary.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven managerial experience or previous experience in a Deputy Golf Course Manager role, or similar.
  • The ability to produce and maintain an exceptional course condition.
  • Must possess strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Qualified to Level 3 or similar.
  • PA1, PA2, and PA6 Spraying Certificates are advantageous.
  • Chainsaw Certification is advantageous.
  • Must have a passion for greenkeeping and can do attitude.
  • An ongoing and relentless desire for improvement and attention to detail is a prerequisite.
