An exceptional opportunity to lead and shape a historic parkland course Ashford Manor Golf Club is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Course Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day management and long-term development of our busy 18-hole golf course, located just outside Staines-upon-Thames in the South of England. As a key member of the Club’s senior management team, you will play a pivotal role in maintaining, improving, and enhancing course conditions to the highest possible standards, delivering outstanding playing surfaces for members and guests all year round, in line with the Club’s vision and budget.

Founded in 1898, Ashford Manor Golf Club is a traditional members’ club situated between Sunbury-on-Thames and Staines-upon-Thames. The 6,400-yard, 18-hole parkland course, originally designed by Harry Colt, has matured into one of the finest courses in Middlesex, renowned for its tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and excellent year-round condition.

The Role

The Course Manager will be responsible for the overall presentation, playability, and sustainability of the golf course, while leading, developing, and motivating the greenkeeping team. Working closely with the General Manager, Director of Golf, Committee, and Board, you will help deliver both immediate excellence and long-term course improvement, enhancing the member experience today and safeguarding the course for the future.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the maintenance and presentation of all playing surfaces to consistently high standards
  • Deliver consistent, high-quality putting surfaces throughout the year
  • Plan and implement agronomic programmes to optimise turf health, playability, and aesthetics
  • Lead, manage, and develop the greenkeeping team, including recruitment, training, motivation, and performance reviews
  • Manage course machinery, irrigation, and drainage systems, ensuring efficiency and compliance
  • Control weeds, pests, and diseases using environmentally responsible practices
  • Communicate effectively with members, staff, contractors, and guests, promoting positive relationships
  • Contribute to meetings, planning sessions, and operational reviews
  • Work with the General Manager, Committee, and Board on short-, medium-, and long-term course development plans
  • Provide agronomic expertise on course conditions, maintenance strategies, and capital projects
  • Manage course budgets, ensuring effective financial control and cost efficiency
  • Ensure full compliance with health & safety, COSHH, fire safety, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain security of course assets, equipment, and materials
About You
 
You will be a confident and professional leader with a strong hands-on approach, excellent agronomic knowledge, and a genuine passion for golf, customer delight and course presentation. Able to commute to TW15 on a daily basis, as no live in accommodation is provided for role.
 
 
Essential Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Course Manager, Head Greenkeeper, or Deputy Course Manager
  • 6–8 years’ total experience in golf course maintenance and management
  • Relevant nationally recognised greenkeeping or sports turf qualification
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills
  • Sound financial understanding, including budget planning and cost control
  • Excellent communication skills across staff and membership
  • Up-to-date knowledge of health & safety, employment, and environmental legislation
  • Commitment to sustainable practices and continuous professional development
  • Experience of working in Private Member Clubs
  • Full, valid UK driving licence Desirable
  • Degree in Agronomy, Turf Management, or a related discipline
