Lamberhurst Golf Club is seeking a hands-on, dynamic and innovative Course Manager to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of a premier parkland course renowned throughout Kent. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a blend of strong agronomy, business and financial acumen, visionary thinking, and the ability to unite and lead others toward a clear, shared goal.
A confident and effective communicator, the Course Manager will work closely with the General Manager and Management Committee to shape and implement the club’s long-term course plan, focusing on enhancing playability, improving presentation standards, and driving continued capital investment in the facility.
With a proven track record of delivering exceptional course conditions and a keen eye for detail, they will take pride in their craft and continually strive for excellence. This is a people-centred leadership role, requiring someone who can motivate, develop, and lead the Greenkeeping team to consistently deliver the highest possible standards.
About the Club:
Lamberhurst Golf Club is a friendly members’ club founded in 1890, which is owned and run by its members for the members. The 18-hole 6,448-yard golf course boasts glorious views of Kent’s rolling countryside and runs through parkland of outstanding natural beauty on both sides of the River Teise.
The club also has a practice range, chipping area and putting green.

Key Responsibilities:

Take overall responsibility for maintaining and presenting the golf course to the highest standards, reflecting Lamberhurst reputation as a premier parkland course

Design, implement, and regularly review maintenance programmes to ensure optimal turf health, playability, and visual quality, with meticulous attention to detail

Lead, mentor, and develop the greenkeeping team, overseeing recruitment, training, motivation, and performance reviews to build a high-performing and accountable workforce

Manage all course machinery, irrigation, and drainage infrastructure to ensure they are well-maintained and operate efficiently, supporting outstanding course conditions

Devise and apply sustainable pest, weed, and disease control strategies that balance environmental stewardship with course performance

Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Management Committee, and other stakeholders to develop and execute the long-term course enhancement strategy in line with the club’s vision

Offer specialist advice on course condition management, maintenance planning, and capital projects, working alongside architects and the club’s agronomist industry experts to maximise the course’s potential

Develop and oversee budgets related to course maintenance, equipment, consumables, and staffing, ensuring sound financial management and cost control

Ensure strict adherence to health and safety legislation and environmental policies, maintain all associated records and training requirements

Maintain clear and effective communication with members, guests, contractors, and club staff, upholding the club’s standards and nurturing positive relationships

Attend cross functional meetings as well as lead operational meetings and participate in regular reviews to continually improve course standards and team effectiveness

Ensure the security and safeguarding of all course facilities, machinery, and materials in accordance with club procedures
Candidate experience, skills & education:
-
Significant management experience as a Course Manager, Head Greenkeeper or Deputy at a well-regarded facility

Proven ability to share, communicate, and lead a clear vision that inspires and unites a team

An instinctive and natural leader with high personal standards and the ability to bring the best out of others

Passionate about course presentation with a track record of delivering high-quality playing surfaces and attention to detail

Dynamic, driven, and forward-thinking, with the confidence to challenge norms and raise expectations

Inspirational in leadership style, with high aspirations and the ability to embed a culture of excellence and accountability

Strong agronomic knowledge, supported by relevant qualifications, Level 3 as a minimum, Level 5 advantageous, in Turf or Sports Turf Management

A sound understanding of current industry legislation and regulations, including health & safety, employment law, and environmental standards

Skilled in financial oversight, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost control
-
Committed to ongoing professional development and staying up to date with best practices in turf and leadership

A confident communicator, written, verbal, and digital, with the ability to build rapport across all levels of the club

A genuine passion for the game of golf and an appreciation for what today’s golfers expect

Full and valid UK driving licence
