A fantastic opportunity has arisen to head our Greenkeeping team at Edzell Golf Club, which is located in the delightful village of Edzell lying midway between Dundee and Aberdeen.  The 18-hole par 71 course was originally laid out in 1895 and amended some thirty-nine years later in line with recommendations from the legendary James Braid. With a virtually unchanged layout it is now complemented by a 9-hole West Water Course which was brought into play in 2001.

We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and committed Head Greenkeeper who would be responsible for the day to-day management of the green staff team, 27 holes of golf and the driving range and practice areas.

The successful applicant will require vision and have the character and skills to take responsibility for decision making and leadership.  They will also need to demonstrate a professional and modern approach to greenkeeping.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Head Greenkeeper will be responsible for the general management and maintenance of both the 18 and 9 hole courses, driving range, practice areas and other areas around the Clubhouse.  The role also requires effective leadership skills, an extensive knowledge of turf management and the ability successfully to manage a dedicated team while working closely with our Managing Secretary and Head Professional.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a greenkeeper highly skilled in turf maintenance, drainage management and irrigation operation and management.
  • Management and leadership skills, having previously been a team leader, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
  • An ability to prepare the courses to a high standard
  • Attention to detail
  • A flexible and co-operative management style
  • Competence in the use of a wide variety of machinery: machine maintenance & management.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 in greenkeeping and sports turf management
  • PA1, PA2 & PA6 spraying qualifications
  • Chainsaw qualifications would be an advantage
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Full competence in monitoring and maintaining health, safely, and security in the workplace and in responding to emergencies.
  • An ability to plan and work to an annual budget set out by the Club including recommendations for machinery requirements.
