Dunstable Downs Golf Club is situated in an enviable location on top of the Chiltern Hills within an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB)
Well-known for wonderful views to the wider landscape and benefiting from the fine grasses and free draining soil associated with calcareous grassland.
Dunstable Downs Golf Course benefits from a chalk subsoil, ensuring exceptional drainage.
We are currently working through an ambitious project to restore many of the original downland features, together with a woodland management programme to actively manage the woodland, control the invasion of scrub and enhance the long-term landscape values.
We also recognise our environmental responsibilities and have a target to achieve GEO Sustainable Golf accreditation within the next two years.
We have a vacancy for an enthusiastic and committed Course Manager to help lead and continue with our ambition. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day to-day management of 6 qualified green staff, 20 holes of golf and the practice facilities.
The successful applicant will require vision and have the character and skills to take responsibility for decision making and leadership. They will also need to demonstrate a professional and modern approach to green keeping whilst having the enthusiasm to enhance the biodiversity and ecology of the site to the mutual benefit of both the environment and the golf course.
Key Responsibilities:
The Course Manager will be responsible for the general management and maintenance of the golf course, practice areas and other areas around the club house. This role also requires effective leadership skills, a vast knowledge of turf management and the ability to successfully manage a dedicated team while working closely with our GM and Head Professional.
Greens/Course Management:
- Good budget management and can build budgets to manage expenditure
- Have a good understanding of Health and Safety and Environmental Management
- Competence in disease identification/management
- Enthusiastic approach to ecological management
- Build/follow an integrated pest management plan/strategy
Team Management:
- The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain professional relationships with staff, members, and suppliers
- Excellent staff management and motivational skills to develop your team
- Communication skills to keep members up to date on course progress and plans
Attributes and Experience:
The ideal candidate will be organised, professional and reliable with a positive flexible approach to work. Have excellent attention to detail with an ambitious approach towards developing their own career within the golf industry and have a desire to improve and keep abreast of industry advances.
- A minimum of 5 years in golf course experience/management
- PA1, PA2, and PA6 spraying certificates
- Qualified to NVQ level 3 or above
- Flexible and co-operative
