Waltham Windmill course manager Rob Welford is cycling the length of Britain to raise funds for charity.

Rob, who is vice-chairman of BIGGA, will be cycling from Landsend to John O’Groats, a distance of 969 miles.

The journey is part of the organised Deloitte Ride Across Britain and takes place on 8-16 September, and Rob said he is undertaking the challenge to support Parkinson's UK.

“My uncle, Malcolm, has Parkinson's,” he said. “He was always the cool uncle and it’s so heartbreaking to see someone who was so full of life, to see that fade. For my aunty, every day has got harder and harder.”

Averaging more than 100 miles per day and camping in tents overnight, the journey will be a huge challenge for Rob and the 650 other people due to take part.

“This will be the hardest challenge I have ever done by a mile,” added Rob. “I can cycle 100 miles in a day but doing it nine days in a row will be the real test. But it is for an incredible cause and I can’t wait to get going.”
