Bingley St Ives Golf Club is a top 10 rated golf course in Yorkshire. It is a busy, popular private members club situated in West Yorkshire who are seeking to employ a dynamic individual to lead our established Greens Team. The Club comprises an 18-hole single loop course which passes through parkland, heathland and moorland. Adjacent practice facilities sit alongside a stunning clubhouse which incorporates a unique 19th hole known as Billy’s Bar after it’s founder Billy Foster

Role Detail

Role Purpose:

The Course Manager will report directly to the Greens Director in the first instance and will be responsible for the management, maintenance, care, and overall appearance and presentation of the golf course and all its supporting areas. It is the post holder’s responsibility to maintain playing surfaces in line with the club’s Course Policy document ensuring the course offers a consistent challenge and an enjoyable experience for golfers of all levels of ability and to ensure clear, regular communications are provided to the Club Management and Membership on both a regular basis and ad-hoc as deemed necessary.

Requirements for the role:

You will hold a Level 3 qualification or above in Sports Turf Management or equivalent.

You will be capable of directly managing and motivating your staff to deliver high standards of work for daily activities ensuring a strong work ethic, attention to detail and pride in work is maintained at all times.

You will be a strong communicator and leader, you must, in addition, be seen to balance the physical green keeping duties alongside your managerial responsibilities.


To plan, monitor and measure the maintenance regime for the course to include set-up for competitions both internal and external.

To provide input into budgets, finance and resources required to maintain and improve the course.

To liaise with third-party suppliers and contractors as required ensuring best vale is achieved at all times.

To build and maintain effective working relationships internally within the Golf Club with all staff, the Board of Directors and the Club Professionals as well as externally with suppliers, partners and vendors.

To contribute to service operational reviews with all stakeholders in the other business areas and the clubs’ General Manager to develop a one-team approach.

To assist with the recruitment, selection, training and appraisal of staff when required.

To research and investigate product/technology changes which may impact or  improve the course.

To participate in a planned program of professional development in order to maintain growth in professional skills and knowledge.

To ensure all relevant Health and Safety Assessments are up to date and are reviewed as per the club's requirements.

To bring to the attention of the Greens Director/ the Board any matters relating to the health and safety of staff, members, and visitors.

To ensure that all members of the team who are operating machinery, tools and equipment do so following all safe systems of work and associated procedures.

To manage the environmental policy and course layout policy.

To promote equality and diversity for staff.

When required, to attend and contribute to Board meetings and to contribute to the monthly Greens Report provided to the Board by the Greens Director

  • recommend and assist with improvements for developing the course and the overall performance.
  • to develop new techniques or processes to be deployed on the course for more efficient working.
  •  determine future training needs for Green staff in connection with techniques and processes.
  •  develop future project works plans in conjunction with the recently approved Course Architect plan.
  •  review course policy documents and amend where necessary.
  • Identify any major course investments required and ensure timely scheduling into business planning.
  • Develop/determine and document contingency planning for prolonged dry/wet spells of weather. Bingley St Ives has been one of the few courses in the area to remain open during the recent spells of inclement weather due to the good work carried out by the team over recent years.

Undertake other such duties, at any location, as assigned by the Greens Director or Chairman of the Club or their representative.

This role detail is a guide to the work you will initially be required to undertake. It may be changed from time to time to meet changing circumstances. It does not form part of your Contract of Employment.
