CPD FAQ's for members

Why should I do CPD?

CPD is about updating your skills and knowledge, boosting your confidence, strengthening your professional credibility and ensuring your employer has a competent and well-motivated employee.

How do I log in to my CPD account?

To access your CPD account, log into Member’s Area of the BIGGA website, click on the Continuing Professional Development button, in the left hand menu, and then click the Visit CPD Website button.

How do I get to the credits claim page?

Once you have arrived in the CPD website, click the button in the left hand menu bar that says Claim Credits.

What is a CPD credit code?

Regions, Sections, companies or training providers can apply to BIGGA for a CPD credit code. This code is pre-validated and the member will be provided with it at the event. This code can be used to claim credits for the CPD activity. It will automatically validate the claim and add it to your CPD record.

What are education, networking, professional and personal learning statement categories?

CPD is not just about education it’s about learning from experiences too. Claims can be made for formal and informal education events, such as work-based qualifications, higher education, attendance at seminars or conferences and certificates of competence (Education), attending section events or exhibitions (Networking), involvement in BIGGA related activities, such as support teams and committee work (Professional). A Personal Learning Statement is an opportunity to reflect on an experience or event that doesn’t fit into the other categories. This may be volunteering, being involved in committee work outside of greenkeeping or having to deal with a human resource issue in the workplace.

Why do I have to provide details of my CPD credit claim?

You must provide details of the claim otherwise the claim will not be submitted. Also providing sufficient details will allow BIGGA to make an accurate validation of your claim. Also, this information will appear on your Lifetime Transcript, therefore, it is important to enter only details of your claim.

How do I view my credits?

When you have logged into the CPD website, click the button View My Credits. Active credits are the default view. To view all of your CPD credits, click on the Show All button. This will show all the credits you have gained since you registered on the programme.

What is a Lifetime Transcript?

The Lifetime Transcript is a complete list of the CPD credits you have claimed since you registered on the CPD programme or began claiming credits.

What is View Summary?

The View Summary button will show a summary of all the credits you have claimed in the different Credit Categories. It will also identify those credits that can be used towards gaining an Approved status (useable), those that have been used or are older than 3 years (dormant) and those that have been validated (active)

What does Show All do?

The Show All button reveals all the credits you have claimed since you have been registered on the CPD programme.

What does Hide Inactive do? Why would I use it?

The Hide Inactive button hides all the dormant credits that have been used towards gaining a CPD Approved status or are more than 3 years old. You would use this to view credits that are Active.

What is the View Credit Summary?

The View Credit Summary details the total number of credits you have gained, those that are dormant, active and are useable towards gaining your CPD Approved status.

Can I edit my CPD claim?

You can only edit your CPD claim before it has been validated. To edit it, click on the pencil icon, on the View My Credits page. It is in the column to the left of the claim.

Can I print my CPD transcript?

Yes you can. At the top of the list of credits is a Print button. Some systems will then allow you to save the document as a PDF so it can be emailed out

What are Dormant Credits?

Once a credit is over three years old or has been validated and used towards CPD Approved status, that credit becomes Dormant and becomes inactive. It does not disappear from your record, it can be used towards a Milestone certificate (if in date) and will always appear on your lifetime transcript

What are Active Credits?

Active credits are used towards CPD Approved status. Once credits have been claimed and validated they become Active. A credit is only active if it satisfies the following:

  • The credits have been validated by BIGGA staff.
  • The credits must be less than 3 years old.
  • The credits must not have previously been used towards a CPD Approved status.

What are Useable credits?

Useable credits are credits that have been validated and are being used towards achieving CPD Approved status. A credit that exceeds its category upper limit is active, but does not count towards the current CPD Approved status.

What are upper limits and lower limits?

All credit categories are given an upper limit that restricts the number of credits that can be used towards your CPD Approved status, for that category. This does not prevent you from still claiming over the limit as these credits will roll into your next three-year cycle.

When claiming Education credits you need to be aware that a minimum of 30 Education Credits must be gained before you can receive CPD Approved status.

Why aren’t all my credits shown on View Credit Summary page?

Credits for claims that are awaiting validation do not appear on the Credit Summary page. Once the credits have been validated by BIGGA staff, they will then appear in the summary, but can be viewed by clicking on View My Credits.
