Responsible for:

Ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of the golf course so that it exceeds the expectations of members, guests & visitors to Woolston Manor Golf Club.


Woolston Manor Golf Club  is located in the heart of Chigwell, a popular and beautiful location with stunning views.  Established in 1994, this Neil Coles designed Golf Course has incrementally improved over the years, to the extent that it is widely regarded as one of the leading Golf courses in Essex.  Home to PGA East Region order of merit events.



This role is permanent and full time. You will also have the opportunity to leave your stamp on what is already a stunning 18 hole course. Woolston Manor Golf Club is an equal opportunities employer and is led by a progressive Club Management.


Main duties and responsibilites:

  • Maintain a professional and welcoming approach at all times when dealing with members, guests & visitors
  • Manage the golf course and the green keeping team, as directed by The Director of Golf, in accordance with the club’s golf course maintenance policy, the health and safety policy and the Greenkeepers Code of Conduct
  • Carry out effective turf maintenance through the establishment of schedules and programmes of annual, monthly, weekly and daily maintenance, which maximise efficiency at the course
  • Prepare the course for play including marking hazards, grounds for repair and ensuring tee markers, bunkers, golf furniture and general green maintenance is carried out
  • Manage and conduct construction/renovation projects
  • Manage and conduct the preparation of machines for use
  • Manage and conduct the maintenance of machines
  • Operate and maintain irrigation systems
  • Maintain drainage systems
  • Plan and manage the control of weeds, pests and disease
  • Communicate information to staff, management and golfers


  • Maintain appropriate levels of supplies ensuring safe and effective control of all stored materials and grounds maintenance products


  • Allocate work and supervise any greenkeeping staff and volunteers
  • Communicate effectively and supervise any members of the greenkeeping staff and volunteers ensuring all works are carried out in a safe manner


  • Ensure the correct procedures are followed regarding the use of all machinery, fertilisers and chemicals
  • Survey, collect and record data on the golf course environment
  • Report on the condition of the golf course environment supplemented with regular photography
  • Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) in line with current and changing requirements of the role
  • Take all reasonable steps to protect the health, safety and welfare of all employees, patrons and visitors, by following all legislative guidelines for the preparation, use and disposal of chemicals, the safe use of tools, plant and equipment and promoting safe working practices in all areas of operation at the course
  • Ensuring that all faults and defects relating to the condition of the course, equipment, tools, buildings, etc, within the remit of grounds maintenance are reported to the The Director of Golf
  • Communicate risks and hazards to appropriate persons
  • Comply with company policies, rules and procedures at all times
  • Work as part of a team and actively demonstrate a willingness to support and achieve the overall business objectives
  • Provide support to ensure the smooth running of all club facilities including rudimentary clubhouse operations
  • Ensure golf club refuse is managed

Desirable skills:

  • Proficient in the use ICT
  • NVQ level 3 or equivalent, PA1, PA2 and PA6A spraying certificates
  • Certified to operate Chainsaws


  • Ensure that all premises are safely secured and locked prior to leaving
  • Have a thorough understanding of club theft prevention procedures
  • Ensure that the emergency call out list is up to date
  • Ensure that there are up to date contact/address details for key holders
  • Ensure that only authorised key holders have access to secured club premises
