The Wisley Golf Club is an exclusive private member golf club based in Surrey, designed by Robert Trent-Jones Junior including a twenty-seven-hole parkland golf course and practice facilities. We would like to invite applications for the position of the Full-time Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our golf course maintenance team. Working with, and reporting to, the Course Superintendent, Lead Superintendent and Director of Golf Course Maintenance, you will be charged with co-leading the maintenance team on one of the three courses to present it to the highest standards and uphold our club vision.

The Assistant Superintendent position requires a very high degree of skill, personal performance, commitment, flexibility, instinct, and leadership to be successful in this role.   • A minimum of five years successful golf course maintenance experience; supervisory exposure desirable
  • A working history at a club or clubs recognised for producing high quality standards
  • Professional golf tournament experience desired, gained whilst employed full-time at the venue(s)
  • Formally qualified to HNC/HND or level 3 vocational equivalent
  • A good knowledge of agronomy, turfgrass management practices and can assist in the design of programmes that will deliver
  • Holds the following key leadership qualities: confidence, commitment and passion, decisiveness, accountability, creativeness, innovative, empathetic, and resilient
  • A golfer who has a good understanding of the game of golf, golf rules and methods of play
  • Working experience and knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods would be an advantage
  • Formally qualified and suitably practiced in the application of fertilisers and plant protection products
  • Positive, can-do attitude mixed with a good sense of humour
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Someone who is a lateral thinker and questions everything in pursuit of the best
  • A highly organised and efficient individual with exceptional concern for detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A hands-on work ethic and someone always who leads from the front
  • Genuine desire to improve and develop self and others via training and CPD
  • Is I.T proficient

Principle functions:

  • Assumes all managerial responsibilities of the golf course superintendent in their absence
  • Is jointly responsible for the short, medium, and long-term implementation of the course management programmes by leading, empowering, delegating, overseeing, and working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and a wider team of forty additional department staff
  • Anticipates personnel, equipment, and material requirements related to golf course maintenance
  • Communicates effectively with both internal and external departments: Greenkeeping team, Landscape team, Mechanics, Director of Golf, Head Professional, Chief Executive and others to ensure the daily delivery of the golf courses and practices facilities is consistently achieved to the club’s expected standards
  • Can schedule all golf course maintenance practices around member play to achieve efficiency, quality, and to avoid disruption
  • Recommends, plans, organises, and completes both minor and major project work such as: irrigation, drainage, tees, bunkers and/or greens upgrades and replacements
  • Is jointly responsible for technical, operational and safety training for employees to ensure that all staff are working within the club’s H&S policy and guidelines for safe working conditions
  • Recruits, supervises, trains, monitors, evaluates, inspires, and motivates department personnel
  • Delivers customer service at the highest level
