There are many agronomic programmes that influence the playability and health of putting greens, but organic matter management is arguably the most important. This seminar will discuss the variables that inflence organic matter build-up e.g. grass species, fertility, water management and how to determine if organic matter levels are concerning in their putting greens. It will thoroughly discuss the most effective programmes for managing organic matter inputting greens including top dressing, aeration, verti-cuttingandsand-injectionaeration.


Learning Outcomes:

  • Determine the factors that contribute to organic matter accumulation in playing surfaces
  • Evaluate organic matter content in putting greens and determine if there is cause for concern
  • Better understand organic matter soil physical test reports and how the data can be best utilised
  • Decide the most applicable organic management programmes for putting greens based on budget, location, soils, etc.
  • Implement new technologies for organic matter control
  • Better communication with golfers and course officials about the importance of organic matter management
