BIGGA Awards 2017

The BIGGA Awards are returning for their third year and once again three prizes are up for grabs.

Nominations are now open online for the awards, which will be presented during the BIGGA Welcome Celebration, held at BTME in Harrogate on 23rd January 2018

The three awards are:

BIGGA Young Greenkeeper of the Year

Championship Greenkeeping Performance of the Year

BIGGA Greenkeeping Achievement of the Year

Jim Croxton, chief executive officer, said: "Each year we are seeing the BIGGA awards grow in popularity. This is great to see as it means the very best greenkeepers in the UK golf industry are pushing each other on to achieve better and better results. I'm proud that once again we will be able to honour their achievements.

"From the largest championship course to the smallest municipal, we want to hear golf's success stories and we look forward to choosing our favourites and announcing the winner at BTME in January."

Entry specifications for the categories are below:

  1. BIGGA Young Greenkeeper of the Year

Entry criteria:

  • Aged 25 years or under on 31 December 2017
  • Maximum 6 years in the industry on 31 December 2017
  • Level 2 NVQ/WBD minimum
  • Must be BIGGA member based in UK

The candidates will have made a contribution to their workplace, environment or industry during 2017 that is above and beyond the norm. This contribution can be in the form of:

  • Special project ??“ construction/process/activity
  • Significant extra education
  • Taken on additional responsibility
  • Volunteer or charity work
  • Committee or leadership work
  1. Championship Greenkeeping Performance of the Year

Entry criteria:

  • Award can be given to an individual but more likely to whole team
  • Held at least one significant national or international, professional or amateur tournament during 2016 in UK
  • Lead candidate, such as the course manager, must be BIGGA Member

The candidates will have
- Produced the golf course in outstanding condition for the event
- Made significant progress or achievement in the run up to the event or during the event. This can include:

  • Overcoming weather issues
  • Construction
  • Agronomic issues
  • Used innovation
  1. BIGGA Greenkeeping Achievement of the Year

Entry criteria:

  • Award can be given to an individual or a team
  • Must be BIGGA Member
  • Any golf club in UK eligible

The candidates will have made significant progress or achievement in greenkeeping during 2016. This can include:

  • Overcoming weather issues or damage
  • Construction
  • Agronomic issues
  • Innovation
  • Environmental achievement
  • Staff development
