Machinery and Work Equipment Manual
Training in the safe use of golf course machinery and work equipment is essential not only to ensure high standards of golf course preparation and maintenance but also to ensure the safety of greenkeeping staff, golfers and the general public.
BIGGA has introduced this manual, thanks to support from Ransomes Jacobsen, to give Course Manager/Head Greenkeepers guidance on golf course machinery and work equipment training, assessment of competence, training providers and qualifications. It also includes an individual Record of Achievement (that could be used to prove competence to future employers), which reinforces the information that can be recorded on The GTC Health and Safety Wall Chart (see below) by including more detailed information on training and certification.
The Greenkeepers Training Committee Health and Safety Wall Chart is now being used by most golf clubs to record greenkeeping staff competence in the use of golf course machinery. The chart allows managers, staff and visitors to see who is qualified to use machinery, who is under training, who requires training and who must not use particular items of equipment.
Ransomes Jacobsen is not only committed to training for greenkeeping professionals but also to providing environmental solutions for golf courses. Both areas are the key to success for the future of our industry.
