BIGGA puts greenkeeper training at the top of its list of priorities.
It believes that training should start as soon as greenkeepers commence
employment and should continue throughout their careers.
Training in the safe use of golf course machinery and work equipment is
essential not only to ensure high standards of golf course preparation
and maintenance but also to ensure the safety of greenkeeping staff,
golfers and the general public.
The Greenkeepers Training Committee Health and Safety Wall Chart is
now being used by most golf clubs to record greenkeeping staff
competence in the use of golf course machinery. The chart allows
managers, staff and visitors to see who is qualified to use machinery,
who is under training, who requires training and who must not use
particular items of equipment.
Thanks to support from Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd, BIGGA has been able to
introduce this manual to give Course Manager/Head Greenkeepers guidance
on training, assessment of competence, training providers and on
qualifications. It also includes an individual Record of Achievement,
which reinforces the information that can be recorded on the Wall Chart
by including more detailed information on training and certification.
Records of Achievement for all members of staff are included in the
Manual content downloadable document. Individual Records of
Achievement can also be used to prove competence to future employers.
Ransomes Jacobsen Ltd is not only committed to training for
greenkeeping professionals but also to providing environmental
solutions for golf courses. Both areas are the key to success for the
future of our industry.
