Job Description

Mid Ocean Club is a private members Club in Bermuda that is home to a Charles Blair Macdonald designed 18-hole golf course that consistently features in the world top 100. We seek an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to direct and participate in the maintenance and turf management of the golf course; supervise maintenance of mechanical equipment; and deputize for the Course Superintendent.

Reporting to Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Assisting with planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; Supervising the maintenance and repair of motorized and other mechanical equipment and instructing equipment operators on the proper operation and care for equipment
  • Overseeing pesticide applications and/or operating and calibrating pesticide application equipment
  • Supervising and participating in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems
  • Assisting with scheduling work, staff management and evaluation and employee safety training and monitoring

Minimum qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Associate’s degree in turf management or similar discipline
  • Ten (10) years’ experience working in golf course maintenance with a minimum of five (5) years working in a supervisory position
  • Working knowledge of golf course maintenance; upkeep of golf course turf; planting and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods, irrigation systems including wells, pumps and automatic controls is a requirement
  • Prior experience with international tournaments, architectural projects and course renovations
  • Strong organizational, oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated supervisory and mentoring capabilities
  • Valid heavy truck and operator’s driver’s license or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of start date
  • Must be able to lift 60-90 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation
