John Deere Team Championship
The John Deere Team Championship golf tournament celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2012, having started in the US in 1987. This is the sixth time the competition has been run in the UK & Ireland since the first tournament here in 2002, and around 30 regional dealer tournaments are taking place this year.
The format of the Team Championship is very straightforward. John Deere dealers across the UK and Ireland are invited to organise their own qualifying tournament for local golf clubs, operating within the Championship's rules and regulations. Each team of three entered at this stage must consist of two senior members of the club’s board or management committee and the head greenkeeper or course manager.
The winning teams from these regional qualifiers, which are played as a three-person scramble with a minimum of 16 teams entered, go through to the National Championship, organised and sponsored by John Deere; at this level of the competition, the local dealer representative joins to form a team of four.
This year’s final will be held on the championship Hunting course at De Vere Slaley Hall on September 20th. The star prize for the winning team in 2012 will be a golf trip to the US.
