BIGGA's magnificent 10 are heading to GIS Orlando

After 15 years and 150 greenkeepers, the Bernhard GIS Alumni is a growing club.

This year the delegates will be jetting off to the Golf Industry Show in Orlando, departing Gatwick February 4th. The process started in the summer months. Interviews were held in October where selected applicants were interviewed by BIGGA CEO, Jim Croxton, BIGGA General Manager, Tracey Maddison and Bernhard’s Director of Global Sales, Steve Nixon.

Steve said: “The standard of applicants was as always extremely high, selecting just a team of ten to join us in Orlando was a difficult task. But Jim, Tracey and I are confident that we have the right mix of age, experience and ability to make this another outstanding trip.”

GIS is all about training, education and networking, the 2017 delegation will have the opportunity to meet industry experts and visit world class golf facilities in the Orlando region.

Stephen Bernhard hosted an event at BTME to mark the occasion and said: “I am totally committed to Bernhard supporting the BIGGA team for this annual event. This trip has forged many young peoples’ careers and put them on the path to Master Greenkeeper Status.”

Jim Croxton and GCSAA CEO Rhett Evans also spoke at the event, highlighting the important networking opportunities the trip provides. Jim added that many delegates hail the experience as a great opportunity to learn from peers and the courses they visit in America, but perhaps most importantly, they believe that the confidence they gain helps them further their own careers a feeling that was prevalent among past delegates in attendance.

The 2017 delegates are: Ben Kebby, Course Manager, Temple Golf Club, Sam Bethell, Course Manager, Chipstead Golf Club, Matthew Nutter, Course Manager, East Berkshire Golf Club, Jack Hetherington, Head Greenkeeper, Alnwick Castle Golf Club, Jamie Blake, Head Greenkeeper, Broadway Golf Club, Jason Brooks, Course Manager, Torquay Golf Club, Lewis Birch, Greenkeeper, Sunningdale Golf Club, Scott Roberts, Deputy Head Greenkeeper, Basingstoke Golf Club, Jon Methven, Greenkeeper, St Andrews Links Trust and Paul Brown, Course Manager, Ham Manor Golf Club.
