BIGGA and Jacobsen's ever-popular and hugely successful Future Turf Managers' Initiative is returning for 2018, and we're encouraging you to get involved.
Since being launched in the UK in 2013, FTMI has grown into a global success story, with initiatives also being launched in Spain, Portugal, Australia and New Zealand.
FTMI has been designed by BIGGA and Jacobsen, a Textron Specialised Vehicles brand, for greenkeepers who wish to make the step up head greenkeeper or course manager.
Jack Hetherington is a FTMI graduate who has recently been promoted to course manager at Alnwick GC.
He said: "I applied for FTMI to gain the tools and understanding to help me become a course manager. I was amazed by the level of professionalism and care shown by the event organisers, speakers and mentors.
"FTMI is perfectly tailored towards advancing careers. Industry leaders helping to create their future successors is a trait running deep in our profession that we should be proud of. I would highly recommend FTMI to anyone looking to improve both themselves and their skills."
FTMI is a three-day event which takes place in March each year at TSV's European manufacturing facility in Ipswich.
Twenty delegates will be chosen to take part in the internationally-recognised initiative.
Over the course of three days, delegates are given presentations and training sessions from top industry professionals on topics including: leadership skills, interview techniques, communication skills, crucial conversations, CV writing skills, and creating budgets.
BIGGA Head of Member Development Sami Strutt said: "BIGGA and Jacobsen recognise the importance of preparing the next generation of greenkeepers to take on the role of head greenkeeper or course manager. FTMI has been designed to give practical tools and guidance to help the delegates to pursue their career aspirations through this professional course."
After graduating, the FTMI experience doesn't stop and BIGGA and Jacobsen host reunion evenings once a year at the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition in Harrogate, and many delegates continue to build upon the relationships forged with their peers and mentors after participating in FTMI.
Ricky James is deputy course manager at Welwyn Garden City GC. He said: "FTMI can not have its value put into words, but here goes... It is the single most beneficial opportunity I have experienced. Surrounded by like-minded peers and highly successful mentors, this is not a chance to let slip by."
To be eligible for the initiative you must have at least three years' experience working full time as a greenskeeper.
The application form must be completed and submitted online. You will be required to submit a copy of your CV with the application.
A nominator or application supporter will be required to endorse you. This could be your manager, supervisor, regional administrator, club manager or trade representative. Nominators will be sent an email with a weblink to complete the nomination form.
Applications will be complete when both your application form and the nominator form have been received.
International BIGGA members may apply, however they will have to meet any travel costs associated with attending.
The deadline for applications is 31 October 2017.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel from Jacobsen and BIGGA and applicants will be informed by December 2017 if they have been successful.
